Monsters of Folk is a folk supergroup comprised of Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James and singer/songwriter M.Ward. The group has a self-titled debut album coming out on September 22. A track from the album is available for free on their website and it’s called “Say Please.” To get it go to the site and type “please” into the request form.

Spanish songstress Juana Molina played a free show at Central Park’s Summerstage last night. The weather was perfect and she was great, playing songs from her many albums.If you missed her, she just announced a show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on August 20 (tickets go on sale Friday at noon). Summerstage’s final show was yesterday, Sunday August 17 and it was a doozie. Naomi Shelton and the Gospel Queens played first, followed by the Menahan Street Band, and finally by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Sharon Jones, who is only 4’11″, has the most spectacular stage presence, and an incredible voice to go with it. Highline Ballroom is giving a free screening of the movie Once, featuring Glen Hansard of the Irish band the Frames and Czech singer Market Irglova, and much of their music, this Saturday, July 19. Doors are at 7 p.m., movie starts at 8 p.m. The movie is excellent, I highly recommend it.

A new band called Paper Route releases their debut EP today, Are We All Forgotten.

Israeli songstress Yael Naim played at Summerstage in Central Park on Sunday night. It was a beautiful evening, the rain finally clearing up and the temperature finally cooling down. Naim has songs in Hebrew, French, and English, including a cover of Britney Spears’ “Toxic” and the song “New Soul,” which is on the MacBook Air commercial.
