In the videos below (a total of about five minutes), Hugh lays out what his life was like after getting arrested with a Hollywood prostitute in 1995. Although he understood that the press would descend upon him to prise out every grisly detail, he admits that because he had left Hollywood to return home to England, he expected slightly less intrusive treatment.

For instance, he popped out of his flat one day, and it had been broken into. Then, a detailed account of his apartment was published. The craziest part, Hugh reflects, is “I remember thinking, Who told them that? Was that the burglar, or was that the police?”

The press became even more invasive earlier this year, when the press followed his girlfriend Tinglan Hong around during her pregnancy.

Hugh isn’t the only famous face testifying; while Americans are celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, Sienna Miller and J.K. Rowling will offer their own experiences and insights. Hugh’s contemporary Steve Coogan also testified, sharing his war stories of how one writer went back on his promise to omit salacious details about an affair Steve had had; and later how a former NotW staffer alerted him to a “sting” that then-editor Andy Coulson had set up.

Although most often we see the fame-whore kind of celebrities as the ones who get mixed up with the paparazzi — and we’re glad to blame them for inviting that attention in the first place — it’s fantastic to see actual celebrities like Hugh and Steve using their clout to testify in court against the depths to which these journalists have sunk.

A preview for the video for Kelly Clarkson‘s new single Mr. Know It All hit the Internet today, and it appears to be at least partly about the unfair way Kelly is portrayed by the press. In it, she performs against a backdrop of newspaper headlines which, when the camera zooms in, are revealed to say unflattering things like “The Win Went To Her Head,” “Why So Single Kelly?” and “Sponsors Drop Kelly Clarkson.” “You don’t know a thing about me,” she sings, in a non-parodic echo of MTV Diary‘s cheeky opening line, “you think you know, but you have no idea.”

This ire towards the press would be understandable coming from, say, Lindsay Lohan, but I actually can’t think of a single figure in pop music more universally adored by journalists than Kelly Clarkson. Even people who don’t much care for her music can’t help but get a little misty eyed when they think about how perfectly she embodies the aspirational fantasy that is The American Dream. When NPR’s All Songs Considered decided to hold a debate about her, they had trouble finding a single music critic who was willing to say anything negative about her on the air. Personally, I find my ear has trouble differentiating between most Kelly Clarkson songs and any number of homogenous pop tracks I tune out in the grocery store, but musical critique is different from the tabloid-y kind of coverage the video references. (And anyway, I’m in the minority.)

I realize the press is an easy target because everyone hates us, but it seems just a tad disingenuous to portray us as the enemy when press coverage of Kelly Clarkson has been as positive as it’s possible for press coverage to be without getting payola involved. I know it’s just a music video, but Ms. Clarkson might do well to reconsider biting the hand that feeds her, for we are a mercurial and pissy people.

• Breaking up with somebody is painful enough without having to read about it the next day.
• If I have dinner with a friend who happens to be a dude, nobody assumes we’re sleeping together. And they also don’t use the word “canoodling.”
• If you’re never “in,” you can never be “out.”

The New York Post’s story said Saporta was spinning records and left the deejay booth to take photos of Lindsay who was with her brother Michael Lohan Jr. According to the source, the security team took his camera away and erased all of the pictures.

But Saporta flat-out denied the rumor on Twitter – a little harshly though.

“COMPLETE fabrication http://bit.ly/60wwWD I’ve never even seen Lohan irl. & I def don’t give the slightest shit about her to go take her pic”

By the way, no new photos of Lindsay yet. She’s managing to keep a low profile somehow.

Gossip Cop has a story about a new item in the National Enquirer about “Lindsay Lohan’s new love – a male model named Petey” and even goes as far as to say that he looks like Lindsay’s off-and-on girlfriend Samantha Ronson.

According to the National Enquirer, “Lindsay sure has a type,” featuring a photo of the model Petey Wright and Ronson both wearing fedoras and shades.

Gossip Cop pokes fun at the story on many levels - everyone looks alike wearing fedoras and shades. Lindsay was only seen with the model during the time of their recent photo shoot a few weeks ago. And Gossip Cop already got confirmation from Lindsay that there’s no relationship with Petey.

Thank you Gossip Cop for having Lindsay’s back … again.

Late last night, Lindsay Lohan posted to her MySpace blog. The title was “random”, but her ‘currently listening to’ gave more clues to her mood. Lindsay often chooses a song that expresses her mood. This time she chose ‘Head Games‘ by Foreginer (lyrics here).

Although you might think Lindsay is talking about her relationship with Samantha Ronson, when referencing Head Games, but she’s really talking about tabloids and the paparazzi. Lindsay says:

“head games- that’s what the tabloids and pap’s play with everyone …. don’t they? everyone plays games, but it gets to the point sometimes when you just want to know why.. “

I don’t know why, indeed, the tabloids want to see the worst in Lindsay. Why they pick on her so much. She doesn’t seem to know either. So, Lindsay was up late troubled by all the drama, it seems, and watched some Without a Trace again.
