CMJ, the awesome New York City festival a la Austin’s South by Southwest, is coming up next week, from Tuesday, October 20 to Saturday, October 24! Hundreds of bands are playing at hundreds of venues around the city. New York Magazine actually puts on some pretty fun events, and they have two interesting ones coming up. On November 19 Xiu Xiu will be playing at a “Bad Art Auction” hosted by Judah Friedlander and on December 3 at (le) Poisson Rouge (Tickets) and Ted Leo will be playing a full set and then will become the backing band for karaoke, hosted by Andrew WK at Studio B. One of my favorite musicians of all time, the illustrious Ted Leo, will be playing a free show tonight with his band the Pharmacists at Castle Clinton in Battery Park. Even though it’s free you need to get a ticket and can do so starting at 5 p.m. at Castle Clinton.
