Welcome to Crush This, your weekly guide to what’s new in movies, music, TV, and DVD. We’ve navigated the upcoming release calendars in search of all the pop culture landscape has to offer. On deck this week are New Moon on DVD, The Bounty Hunter and The Runaways in theaters, and the American Idol top 12 Rolling Stones show.

DVD
You’re probably already camping outside Best Buy, waiting for your local New Moon release party at midnight tonight, right? (Kidding. Well, half-kidding.) If vampire/werewolf stories aren’t your jam, try Disney’s reentry into hand-drawn animation, The Princess and the Frog, or Broken Embraces, a.k.a. the movie Penelope Cruz should’ve been Oscar nominated for. Also Ninja Asassin, if that’s the sort of thing you’re into.

MOVIES
Jailbait girl rocker biopic The Runaways hits theaters on Friday (Kristen Stewart! Dakota Fanning! They kiss!), along with the Jennifer Aniston/Gerard Butler fighting-exes-who-will-surely-fall-in-love-again rom com The Bounty Hunter, and Repo Men, a.k.a. the reason Jude Law hosted Saturday Night Live this week, a thriller about a man who repossesses organs.

MUSIC
The White Stripes release Under Great White Northern Lights on Tuesday, the soundtrack to the band’s documentary chronicling their 2007 trek through Canada to celebrate their 10-year anniversary.

TV
If you’ve managed to recover from last week’s American Idol elimination tragedy, the two-hour top 12 performance show on Tuesday is Rolling Stones-themed. Wonder what Lilly Scott would’ve done with that? Wednesday night’s got the season finales of Scrubs (possibly the series finale, since Scrubs: The New Class didn’t do too hot ratings-wise) and The Real World (if this season didn’t bore you too much). FlashForward returns from its ultra-long hiatus on Thursday night.

Disney Princess Dances: The Princess and the Frog

Watch the Disney Princesses dance away, including the newest Disney Princess, Tiana, from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” which is coming to Blu-ray and DVD on March 16th. I can’t wait for this DVD release!

Set to “Down In New Orleans”, performed by Anika Noni Rose, this clip follows Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and the rest of the Disney Princess on the dance floor.

"Up" and "The Princess and the Frog" Win Annie Awards

Two Disney films walked away with Annie (animation) Awards last night. “Up” won two awards, including Best Feature which means they have a very good chance of winning the Oscar for Best Feature.

Since the Annie Awards have existed, whoever won Best Feature at Annie has won it at the Oscars. Except for twice. Once for a year ago, when Kung fu Panda won. The Disney/Pixar film “Wall-E” walked away with the Oscar that year.

“The Princess and the Frog” won three awards last night.

William Shatner was the host of the Annie Awards, which I bet he was a riot. Congratulations to “Up” and “The Princess and the Frog”!

"The Princess and the Frog" Breaks $100 Million at the Box Office

“The Princess and the Frog” has only been out on the big screen for a little over two months and it has already broken the $100 million mark at the box office. It opened in limited locations on November 25th and nationwide December 11th.

Overseas, the film brought in $13 million, which brings the total to $113 million. I wouldn’t consider this movie a flop, but considering this was Disney’s first African American Princess, I think it could have done better.

Next princess movie on the books…Rapunzel, starring the voice of singer Mandy Moore. Do you think that Princess movie will do better than “The Princess and the Frog”?

Don’t forget that “The Princess and the Frog” comes out on Blu-ray and DVD March 16th!

"The Princess and the Frog" Makes the Oscars Reminder List

“The Princess and the Frog” has squeaked in to the Oscar nominations for Best Score. The movie made the “reminder list” which was sent out to 234 members of the Academy’s movie branch, according to Variety.

Acad rules prohibit “scores diminished in impact by the predominant use of songs” from competing in the original score category.

The rule was instituted in the mid-1990s, after wins by four Disney animated musicals in the category designed to reward “dramatic underscoring,” not multiple songs. So a possible win for “original score” by a Disney animated musical this year would be ironic considering the origins of the rule.

It is believed that the Academy executives are considering a last minute disqualification of the score, but no comment has been made yet, citing confidentiality.

I guess we will have to wait and see if this wonderful Disney movie and the music get the honor of being included. I certainly hope they do!

Drawing Naveen from Disney's "The Princess and the Frog"

I was just sent this fantastic clip called “Drawing Naveen” from Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog”. Naveen shares his two cents on how he should be drawn. It’s pretty funny!

If you haven’t seen this movie, it is a must see! Some of the scenes may be scary for smaller children, but other than that, it really is a movie for all audiences.

Entertainment Weekly Presents the Best and Worst of 2009

Which Disney stars and Disney projects made Entertainment Weekly’s Best and Worst of 2009 list? How about we highlight the best today since I am in the holiday spirit! If you want to know who made their worst list…check out this issue, which hits newsstands on Friday, December 18th.

Just by looking at this amazing cover, you can see some Disney people and projects: The Princess and the Frog, UP, Taylor Swift…

Ms. Taylor Swift was named as one of the Entertainers of the Year and here’s why:

TAYLOR SWIFT, Her 2008 album marked its eighth week at No. 1 and by November, her 2006 release had set the record for the decade’s longest reign on the Billboard 200. She hosted SNL, kept her cool with Kanye, and received numerous accolades and awards. “The moment I knew I was having a good year was when I got a phone call from the promoter of my tour,” she recalls. “He said, ‘I’m about to put your tickets on sale for the first date of your tour.’ And I was like, ‘Okay, well, let me know tonight how we’re doing.’ I got a call from him three minutes later, saying ‘You sold it out.’ I screamed, jumped up and down. I’ve gotten so many phone calls this year that have resulted in my screaming and shouting. It’s been such a thrilling year in so many ways.”

The movie “UP” (which is definitely one of my favorite movies of the year) made critic Lisa Schwarzbaum’s list of the best movies. Here’s her entire list:

“The Princess and the Frog” Opens TODAY!!

I am so very, very excited about the opening of “The Princess and the Frog” tonight! I’ve been writing about this movie ALOT because there have been so many great articles, pictures and video clips that have come out and I am so excited that Disney has gone back to hand-drawn animation.

John Lasseter Chats “The Princess and the Frog”

Are you getting excited about seeing “The Princess and the Frog”? I am! The reviews have been coming in since it premiered in New York and Los Angeles and so far so good. The rest of us have to wait until December 11 to see it.

In the video clip below, John Lasseter talks about the classic elements of “The Princess and the Frog,” and why the film is relevant to modern audiences.
