Sunday night was the New York Magazine’s Campfire by the Canal, the canal being the Gowanus. Members of the Upright Citizens Brigade told embarrassing summer stories, there was a campfire, marshmallows, and most importantly free beer and vodka drinks. This weekend was New York Magazine’s highbrow BBQ with Islands, and now they have a few more things up their sleeve. On September 28 Jose Gonzalez and members of the Upright Citizen’s Brigade will be at the Yard for a “Campfire by the Canal.”
Then, in honor of their 40th Anniversary, the National and Grizzly Bear will be playing a show hosted by Stella (Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, and David Wain) at Hammerstein Ballroom on October 10. (via Life Vicarious)… More »

The latest blog-buzz band Crystal Antlers will be playing a free show at Other Music tonight at 8:30 p.m. for their first ever show in NYC. Then they will be at Mercury Lounge tomorrow (Tuesday) night with Chair Lift and Religious Knives. They will also be at the big Todd P show on July 12 at the Yard.
Their debut EP was released in June and got Best New Music rights on Pitchfork. No word on a full-length yet…. More »

The Gowanus Canal Conservancy is throwing an all day Gowanus Goes Green party at the Yard on Carroll Street to celebrate the canal and its watershed.
