Peter Gabriel is playing two shows at Radio City Music Hall on May 2 and 3. Ticket prices start at $54.50 and go all the way up to $199.50 and are on sale now. His new album, out in the US on March 2, and called Scratch My Back, is all covers, and includes his versions of “Heroes” by David Bowie, “Après moi” by Regina Spektor, and “My Body is a Cage” by Arcade Fire. Alan Sparhawk of Low has released a new album with his other band, Retribution Gospel Choir, called 2, on Sub Pop. I interviewed Alan a few weeks ago about the album, and now the Duluth, Minnesota-based group is on tour. They played Mercury Lounge last night, and boy did they rock the house.

Beach House Celebrated "Teen Dream" at The Bell House

Baltimore group Beach House released their third album, Teen Dream, (first on Sub Pop) this week and celebrated with a show at The Bell House in Brooklyn.

Singer/organ player Victoria Legrand and guitarist Alex Scally were joined by a drummer, who added a lot to the show. They played mostly from the new album, which is wonderful. Even though it’s freezing, concert promoters are already gearing up for summer shows. The first of the summer park shows has been announced: Passion Pit will be playing a Celebrate Brooklyn benefit (read: it’s not free) at Prospect Park on June 29. Tokyo Police Club are “very special guests.”

New York Guitar Festival

In addition to the upcoming Winter Jazzfest, New York is also hosting the Guitar Festival starting this weekend and continuing through February (January 8-February 4). The 2010 Winter Jazzfest is happening on January 8-9 (Friday and Saturday).

It’s going down at various West Village bars (Kenny’s Castaways, (le) Poisson Rouge, Bitter End, Zinc Bar, and Sullivan Hall). Tickets are $25 for a one-day pass and $30 for a two-day pass. The full lineup is after the jump.
