Rottentomatoes.com is the how most of us decide which movies are worth our thirteen dollars. Maybe you can gamble on a 55% film if you love the star, and despite 87% awarded to a thriller you might know you’ll enjoy the Katherine Heigl rom-com more, but you can get a sense of the artistic value of a film by the Tomatometer. Jonah Hill was great in the Brad Pitt baseball biopic MoneyBall. And this morning the Academy recognized that, with an Oscar nomination for the 28 year old actor. This is great news. Jonah’s chances for actually winning the Oscar may be slim, but this basically guarantees that he will get more serious dramatic roles. Which will be good for everyone. More »
Ever wondered who’s the random German guy who’s in New Year’s Eve opposite Seth Meyers? It’s Til Schweiger — who turns 48 today — and it turns out he’s not so random. More »
Thursday, December 1 marks World AIDS Day, an opportunity for people all over the planet to get educated on the facts about HIV/AIDS, what it’s like to live with the disease today, and how to prevent it. All week at Crushable we’ll be talking about what HIV/AIDS means to you, our readers, in terms of pop culture.
In the spirit of dispelling myths and sharing knowledge, we’ve gathered up twelve different portrayals of TV and movie characters who have the disease. Some have died, others are living with it, but all taught us something about it. More »
Chet Haze, Tom Hanks‘ Rapper Son (that’s what’s on the birth certificate), has released the video for his song “Hollywood” today. If you’ll recall, this is the song that features the lyric, “Girl, you’ll be my calendar, let’s go on a date.” It is my favorite song. More »
On the tenth anniversary of 9/11, my family watched Lifetime’s minute-by-minute broadcast of the attacks, featuring footage from ten years ago. It was grim and sad; we just sat quietly for two hours and cried. Not to sound glib, but after watching the first trailer for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, I have no doubt the movie will be just as heartrending. More »
Tom Hanks‘ rapper son Chet Hanks aka Chet Haze aka Chaze is the best! Chet rose to “fame” with his tribute to Northwestern University called “White and Purple,” a remix of Wiz Khalifa‘s “Black and Yellow.” And he just kept going! his latest song, “Hollywood,” is a rare gem, glittering bright with lyrics like, “Girl you can be my calendar, let’s go on a date.”
In honor of Hazing Week, here are six photos of Chet Haze, coupled with six choice lyrics. More »
Tom Everett Scott is one of those hot character actors; you see him every once in a while in movies and on TV, but it never seems like he actually found a project that entirely fits him. Can you believe it was fifteen years ago that we met him as shy drummer Guy Patterson in That Thing You Do!? It seems like Hollywood wanted him to be the next Tom Hanks, and while that never happened, Tom’s really warmed to the “hot asshole” role, playing jerks that you still want to sleep with in Because I Said So and Tanner Hall (out today). Won’t you join us in watching Tom grow from gawky kid to Rooney Mara‘s hot family friend? More »
Hey, nothing weird here, just Tom Hanks stopping by a Univision station in Los Angeles and giving a Spanish weather report. Just a little dancing and hanging out, from Tom Hanks, at a local news station that broadcasts in Spanish. Totally normal, reasonable stuff. (We managed to make out the words “long” and “hot,” so, uh oh!) More »
Next to Normal‘s Aaron Tveit introduces the Catch Me If You Can Tonys number, but it’s good that he ultimately deferred to co-star Norbert Leo Butz. While Tveit plays Frank Abagnale, Jr. — Leonardo DiCaprio‘s role in the 2002 film — the true star of this song-and-dance number was Butz.
You might recognize him for originating the role of Fiyero in Wicked, but he left the show in 2004. While some actors cycle in and out of Broadway, it seems that Butz has continued to grow on the stage. Only seven years ago he was playing a typical male lead, yet now he’s clearly showing his age — in the best way. Following Tom Hanks as FBI bank fraud agent Carl Hanratty, Butz is wonderfully nervous and stridently law-abiding. And boy, can he dance! Be sure to check out the video. More »
With the royal wedding coming up, it seems like the perfect time to have a sketch about it on SNL. Episode host Elton John joined Fred Armisen and Bill Hader (as Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, respectively) to take the piss: More »
Well of course there’s an entire blog dedicated to Photoshopping Tom Hanks‘ head onto the bodies of animals — that is why Al Gore invented the Internet, after all. We’re sort of disappointed no one’s mashed him up with a volleyball yet. All in due time, we suppose. Photo of T.Hanks as an orca after the jump. More »
In our new series Hollywood Jobs, Rebecca Rose will interview people who work in all aspects of the entertainment industry – except performing. Here, you’ll meet the people who keep the show going on behind the scenes.
Leslie Thorson is a Key Assistant Location Manager who has worked on over 20 major Hollywood films, including LA Confidential, Something’s Gotta Give and The Italian Job. Leslie spoke with me from her home in Los Angeles in order to help me understand what it takes to do one of the toughest, if most under-appreciated fields in production. More »
Tom Hanks son, Chet, goes by the rapper name Chet Haze. Which is good, because you don’t want people to think that your fast-track to fame is somehow due to nepotism. Obviously, you have made it through sheer talent, with freestyling flows like “Uh,” “yeah,” and “I spit too hard for my dentist/and get my balls served more than Serena playing tennis.” More »
Tom Hanks Is A Penguin, Tom Hanks Is A Bear – No, these aren’t lyrics to the new Chet Hanks rap album. At least, not yet. (Buzzfeed)
Turns out Colin Hanks isn’t the only show biz progeny of screen legend Tom Hanks. There’s also Chet Hanks, who’s trying to start a career as a rapper named “Chet Haze.” Chet’s a student at Northwestern, and his first, um, single is a remake of Wiz Khalifa‘s “Black and Yellow” called “White and Purple” — aka the Northwestern colors.
