It’s the Valentine Day episode of SMALLVILLE, and Lois and Clark are moving fast in their relationship!

LOIS MOVES IN WITH CLARK — It is Valentine’s Day and while Clark (Tom Welling) is out on a date with Lois (Erica Durance), he unknowingly becomes infected by gemstone kryptonite, which has magical wish-fulfilling properties. Clark mentions to Lois that he wishes they had a more traditional relationship,so Lois quits the Daily Planet, moves in with Clark and starts planning their wedding. Still unaware of his new power, Clark also casually tells Chloe (Allison Mack) he wishes she would spend more time watching out for him, so an infected Chloe takes his wish to heart and sets her sights on a new target – Lois. Written by Anne Coffel Saunders and directed by Christopher Petry

Can you imagine Lois in an apron, and being a docile homemaker? The love-averse tough girl planning a wedding? This I got to see! And Chloe versus Lois over Clark? Yup, this is going to be fun to watch.

SMALLVILLE rocks! And Geoff Johns is the man. DC comics fans should have a field day with the cool references and inside quotes, and yet casual fans still won’t get lost in the storylines. AND, there were more superheroes and villains than expected. All in all, the SMALLVILLE “Absolute Justice” was a cool treat for everyone who loves superheroes and comics.

But rather than make a full play-by-play recap of the episode, here are the highlights from tonight’s episode.

• Chloe’s Watch Tower had been trying to bring Clark’s team together, or as Oliver refers to everyone as “the superfriends”!!! (Love it!)
• Justice Society of America was referenced as an older generation of superheroes, who used to keep the streets safe, until government task force turned their lives upside down. The JSA were wrongly accused of crimes they didn’t commit. Though the accusations didn’t stick, the JSA folded and and the superheroes went their private ways.
• As leader of the JSA, Carter Hall AKA Hawkman (Michael Shanks) maintained the brownstone headquarters and kept all the JSA members’ memorabilia as museum pieces. That’s where Clark Kent found him with a mentally unstable Kent Nelson AKA Dr. Fate.
• Sylvester Pemberton AKA Star-spangled Kid trained his sidekick Stripesy’s young stepdaughter, Courtney Whitmore AKA Stargirl.
• The Justice Society of America was tracking Clark Kent’s new team, and they knew everyone’s identity but were not impressed with the young superheroes. Carter Hall was specially skeptical of their heroism, but Dr. Fate saw Clark’s future and knew that he was different than everyone else.

• A young Icicle, the son of the original supervillain, was bent on avenging his father’s demise but apparently he wasn’t acting alone! Pemberton tried to tell Chloe about the threat coming to them all, but he was killed by Icicle. Icicle also killed Wesley Dodds AKA Sandman, and Kent Nelson later in the movie.
• A surprise (for me) was the appearance of Dr. Amanda Waller of the covert-ops organization Checkmate! The portrayal of Waller ties beautifully with her comics counterpart. She may be a villain to recon with, but as in comics, her actions are driven by some sick view of right and wrong. Waller brought Icicle in to get the older superheroes out of their hiding places and get them working with Clark’s team, because of the looming “apocalyptic days” ahead.
• Tess Mercer saw a little of the action tonight, but she will definitely be back, and this time as agent Mercer of the Suicide Squad. This might explain Mercer’s questionable involvement with Zod’s Kandorian squad! Or who’s double agent is she?
• Another cool appearance was the comeback of the Martian Manhunter, John Jones! And what a bitter-sweet way to restore his ability. A plus to his appearance was the sneak into his likeness as a Martian.
• At the end of the night, the Justice Society worked together with Clark’s team to defeat Icicle, without killing him! Icicle was re-incarcerated under government watch – wait – back under Waller’s Checkmate lair, where he was killed by the White Queen herself.

I think the best part of the movie was how DC Comics writer Geoff Johns added value to how the super-friends can evolve into the cohesive team that they’ll become as the Justice League. Partnering the old and young superheroes together taught Clark’s team valuable lessons about being a superhero. Chloe realized that Watch Tower doesn’t have to be online all the time, and that she might actually put the team together, better, if they were more like family. If the Watch Tower would be more a place to hang, and give the heroes a place to call home, than being like a nuclear war room. According to Carter Hall, Oliver has problems with intimacy! He’s afraid of letting people know how important they are to him, so he appears as a jackass. Dead on!

Of course, the most inspiring reference was to Clark Kent’s future, which Dr. Fate refers to as the silver age of heroism. Fate saw a glimpse of Clark’s red cape!!! Fate also gave him an inspiring look into his ability to galvanize hope among humans. To add to the excitement, Dr. Fate also told Clark that Lois Lane is the key. And privately, Fate told Lois that “he” is the one she needs, and she is the one he needs, this savior, the sentient power.

So awesome!

There are three reasons why tonight’s SMALLVILLE is a must-see!

It’s the first time this many DC Comics superheroes (and villain) are in one SMALLVILLE event – Hawkman, Dr. Fate, Stargirl, Martian Manhunter, Skyman/Star-spangled Kid, and of course Green Arrow and the boy scout Clark Kent (not to mention Chloe aka “Watch Tower”). Counting Icicle as villain, there are more Justice League members in this than in “Legion”! Of course, SMALLVILLE isn’t calling the superheroes as the JLA (they can’t) rather they are called the Justice Society of America. That works for me, we know who they are.

And because it’s a powerhouse of supers, SMALLVILLE is making this a two-hour movie event! It’s from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., so don’t change channels along the way!

And third reason for watching SMALLVILLE tonight? The script was written by DC. Comics writer Geoff Johns! AND the second part is directed by TOM WELLING. The first hour is directed by Glen Winter!

Next week, the two-hour movie SMALLVILLE “Absolute Justice” features the Justice Society of America (better known as Justice League of America in the comics world). But I got to warn you, everything from on here contains SPOILERS, so tread with caution!

So, one of the superheroes, Sylvester Pemberton, was murdered and Clark (Tom Welling) and his team are investigating the murder. Chloe (Allison Mack) and Oliver (Justin Hartley) come across an abandoned car, with license plate “STAR”. Oliver finds a notebook in the glove compartment with information on all of them! Someone knows their secret identities!

Elsewhere,  Clark asks Dr. Carter Hall (Michael Shanks) about several phonecalls from Pemberton, as a deranged Kent Nelson (Brent Stait) talks to his “bag” in the background. Clark takes a x-ray peek inside the bag and sees a mask move and stare back at him!

SUPERHEROES TO THE RESCUE! The two-hour SMALLVILLE movie event takes the Justice Society of America to the 21st century when the heroes meet with Clark’s team.

It’s going to be one great thrill ride for all DC Justice League fans, and best of all, the script was written by GEOFF JOHNS and directed by GLEN WINTER (first hour) and TOM WELLING (second hour)

DC COMICS’ CHARACTERS HAWKMAN, STAR GIRL AND DR. FATE FROM THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA MEET UP WITH CLARK AND HIS TEAM IN A SPECIAL TWO-HOUR EVENT. A man named Sylvester Pemberton tracks down Chloe and tells her he knows about her team of superheroes and needs their help. However, before he can explain who he is, he is attacked and killed by Icicle. Clark and Chloe’s investigation leads Clark to the former headquarters of the Justice Society of America where he meets up with Kent Nelson AKA Dr. Fate, Carter Hall AKA Hawkman and Courtney Whitmore AKA Star Girl. Courtney pleads with Hawkman and Dr. Fate to help her catch the killer that is targeting their group but they are reluctant to resume their duties as superheroes. Clark, John Jones, Green Arrow and Chloe team up to help the JSA stop Icicle before he murders another member of the group. Meanwhile, Lois receives a package from a mysterious agency called Checkmate, run by Amanda Waller.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Annette O’Toole inked a deal to reprise her role as Martha Kent on to SMALLVILLE to return sometime during May sweeps. Her last appearance was in season 6 when she moved to Washington to become a senator. Very few details have been released but it looks like the guesting is only for one or a few episodes, but Martha Kent will have a few surprises of her own when she appears in the small town.

And yes, to answer, Ausiello’s question – it would be a nice touch to see Clark Kent reunite with his mother, even though he’s been very capable of handling adult life since she moved out. If this were real life, mother and son would have a warm time catching up in each other’s life, and about Lois too! BUT, this is Clark’s life and nothing in his life is normal. So I bet her return will either have to do with Zod, the Justice Society, or some national security issue.

And that “unexpected surprise”… I just hope it’s not to tell him she’s re-marrying.

This could potentially be SMALLVILLE’s biggest episode yet! It’s not even just an “episode”. The promotions are all about a “two-hour movie event” and it’s hyped to be a spectacular event with several Justice League DC characters appearing for this movie:

Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Dr. Fate (Brent Stait) and Stargirl (Britt Irvin).

And if Hawkman’s around, Hawkgirl can’t be far behind, at least the mention of her won’t be. Check out this very cool promo image of SMALLVILLE’s “Absolute Justice”, which includes Green Arrow (Justin Hartley) and Clark Kent (Tom Welling) aka Boy Scout. I just love how everyone is in masks except for Clark. Awesome.

On February 5, Clark Kent will clash with the Justice Society of America in the mini-movie titled “Absolute Justice”. The SMALLVILLE event will be a nod to the Justice League of America, and will feature Hawkman (‘Stargate” alum Michael Shanks), Dr. Fate (“Andromeda”’s Brent Stait) and Stargirl (Britt Irvin of “V”).

The two-hour episode will begin with someone dying at the opening scene that brings the JSA and Clark’s team together, albeit with friction among the superheroes!

“Stargirl has a bit of friction with Green Arrow at the beginning, as does Hawkman,” Irvin tells FanCast.com. Unfortunately, she doesn’t reveal who is going to die, but I’m hoping it’s not anyone of the major players. We can live with some friction. It looks like even Green Arrow and Hawkman will be a “match made in hell”, as Justin Hartley revealed.

But Irvin spoils that Stargirl quickly warms up to Clark Kent.

“He reminds her a lot of her mentor,” says the actress. What’s more, when the JSA gets wind (via Dr. Fate) of Clark’s destiny, Stargirl realizes “he’s very important for mankind.”

So what can we expect from Stargirl on this SMALLVILLE “Justice Society” event? Irvin adds that her character will be true-to-form – the “cosmic star that shoots powerful energy”, her agility (“lots of flipping”) and that awesome costume!
