Top Chef is really hurting for celebrity chef judges these days. Last night on the show, Southern TV fryer Paula Deen stopped by. And to prove her limits in the kitchen, they couldn’t even describe her as a chef — or a cook. They introduced her as an “author, restaurant owner and Emmy award winning TV personality.”
Usually on Top Chef, judges have a skill set that puts them above the contestants in some way. Paula Dean just knows how to fry stuff. And eat. Here was her intro:
“If you can eat it. You can fry it. I have fried Macaroni and cheese. Lasagna, Balls of butter. Let your imaginations run wild.”
Leave it to Michael Showalter to craft the perfect ridiculous reality show signoff tagline. The comedian has paired with Atom.com on a new comedy short called Project Top Chef Model – a satire of almost every reality show Bravo specializes in. The best part? When on of the wannabe model/chef/cooks gets kicked off, they get one of these: Sayonara Fuckface! More »
The cast of The Jersey Shore is heading to Italy next season. Which may be the one thing that can bring new storylines into the show. What will the cast do when confronted with real life Italians from Italy?
Well, there’s one Italian who has a prediction: Top Chef‘s Fabio Viviani. And he tells Fancast that the guidos aren’t prepared for what’s coming:
“They won’t make it out alive. They’ll kill them all.”
Wow. That makes us want to watch even more. More »
Watch a sneak peak of Joe Jonas on Top Chef - It’s worth it for the clip of chef Dale Talde talking about how he has never heard of the Jonas Brothers. “I have no idea who Joe Jonas is. I thought maybe he was a pastry chef.” (Celebuzz)
TV Guide denies Padma Lakshmi retouching – In an update on the rumor we brought you yesterday, TV Guide attributes the Top Chef host’s paler skin color to lighting issues. “Padma’s skin tone is beautiful, and we did nothing to adjust it,” they said. (PopEater)
Padma Lakshmi’s skin appears lightened by TV Guide - Padma graced the cover of the latest issue along with Top Chef cohort (and Crushable weird celebrity crush) Tom Colicchio, and her skin tone looks to have been digitally altered. WTF! (PopEater)
Better hit the gym while you can: desserts are trending and trending hard. Not only is Food Network getting in the game with shows like Cupcake Wars and Adam Gertler’s Kid in a Candy Store, but Bravo is getting ready to unveil its latest Top Chef incarnation, Top Chef: Just Desserts. Those meal-ending treats usually get such short shrift on the culinary competition show; contestants who make desserts are frequently sent home due to things like store-bought puff pastry.

You know what we could always use more of? Culinary competition shows. Which is why we were so thankful when Bravo announced it was working with Rocco DiSpirito (celeb chef best known for Today show and Biggest Loser appearances and his reality TV show The Restaurant) to launch a new weekly food competition show Rocco’s Dinner Party. (Do you sense our note of sarcasm?)
Each week, the show will feature four different chefs, who “will hail from all walks of … More »

Jennifer Love Hewitt does it, we got one of our reporters to do it, and now we want to know: would reality stars vajazzle? We caught up with a bunch of Bravo reality stars on the blue carpet of the net’s upfronts last night, and asked them about their vajazzling preference. You can weigh in, too, by taking our poll.
Destin Pfaff and Rachel Federoff from Millionaire Matchmaker:
Rachel: Yeah, why not.
Destin: As a guy, too complicated. I like it clean and… More »
It’s a girl for Top Chef hostess Padma Lakshmi. According to People, the model gave birth to Krishna Thea Lakshmi on Saturday. She told the magazine last month that she planned give her baby a traditional Indian name: “It will be after someone in my family, so don’t expect to see an Anglicized name — it will be a classically Indian Sanskrit name.”
Congrats to the happy family — including the father, whom Padma has declined to name.

This time of the year, the prime-time shows go into a repeat pattern and a lot of reality shows wind down. It’s because people tend to be very caught up in the holidays and end of year activities and don’t watch TV as much. Yes, we just started a new season of Secret Millionaire and Top Chef 5, but not much else is happening in the world of reality TV for the next couple of weeks.
But not to worry, there’s… More »
