As previously mentioned, Hilary Duff was named youth ambassador for Bogota. She’ll be traveling to Bogota with her charity, Blessings in a Backpack, to visit schoolchildren as part of an aim to take the weekend feeding program International.

“I am honored to meet the schoolchildren of Bogota, along with the founder of Blessings in a Backpack, Stan Curtis. We are, sincerely, pleased with the people of Bogota for their genuine efforts to feed the hungry children.”

Hilary Duff will pay a visit to schools around Bogota and will participate in cultural activities with Bogota Mayor Samuel Moreno.

The “Bike in Style Challenge” was created to challenge Fashion Institute of Technology students to design stylish bike-wear and accessories for New Yorkers to enjoy biking to work. This challenge is to help support the NY Mayor’s work to make NYC a “green” city with New Yorkers biking to work.

DKNY partnered with students to provide creative direction in their designs – all including a poncho, jacket and travel bag. Winning designs will be developed into prototypes by DKNY. Hilary Duff acted as one of the 7 judges for the challenge.

The awards ceremony tomorrow will be held at the LVMH Tower “Magic Room” in New York.

Hilary will be there as spokesperson for Blessings in a Backpack, a charity close to her heart. She’ll be encouraging donations for the charity, a non-profit that works to provide backpacks of food for kids in various schools across the US.

Hilary Duff and 24 students from Gallatin County Schools will participate in activities at the Speedway, including a pit-road bike relay race. Hilary will also give the command for the NASCAR race to begin.

“Hilary goes out with me to visit schools every three or four months, and I get to see that transformational moment when the students see ‘Lizzie McGuire’ or ‘Cinderella,’” Curtis said. “It’s incredible.”

If you’re going to the race, the Kentucky Speedway is encouraging you to bring new or used backpacks to donate to Blessings in a Backpack.

On Thursday, May 14th at Noon, the Empire State Building’s lights will glow red in honor of the world’s largest AIDS fundraising event. Hilary Duff will be leading a Lighting Ceremony in the lobby of the building at noon, for 15 minutes. The event will include throwing a prop switch to illuminate a scale model of the Building for members of the media. Hilary says:

“In tough times, it’s even more important for people to get involved. Everyone should find a cause they believe in whether it is something in your local community or something as big a global issue as AIDS.”

Hilary Duff will be co-hosting the AIDS Walk Opening Ceremony in Central Part on Sunday morning (May 17th) and will be walking for the event. You can watch her PSA for the AIDS Walk here.

Back in December, Hilary Duff had a chance to ring the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange along with representatives of her Blessings in a Backpack Charity. This seems like the same sort of honor.

Variety has also picked up to write about the film, putting out the first official review. The reviews are a little mixed on the overall fluidity of the film, but Hilary Duff is described as “winsome” and in a “near-adult role”, which sounds a bit like a compliment. ;)

Hilary Duff will host the celebration at LIVE! on Sunset on May 6th at 7 – 9pm. She will be joined by hosts Max & Lubov Azria, Gerard Guez and Jackie Rose. The party will be attended by celebs and VIPs of all sorts, and will honor the Hervé Léger by Max Azria “bandage dress”. The event will preview the Spring 2009 collection, with live music, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and celebrities wearing the iconic dresses on the red carpet (maybe Hilary too!)

The bandage dress was a huge hit in the 80s and is now re-surging back into fashion. The one shown in this post is Hervé Léger’s bow bandage dress, for example.
