Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM)’s Sounds Like Brooklyn Festival has been a big hit the past two years, with performers like Beirut and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. This year’s lineup includes Les Savvy Fav with openers Vivian Girls (January 29) Rain Machine with openers Anti-Pop Consortium (January 30), Ra Ra Riot with openers The Antlers (February 5). A new NYC festival has been announced. It sounds similar to CMJ, but has a much narrower area focus: Williamsburg and Greenpoint in Brooklyn. The Northside Festival, produced by L Magazine, will take place June 11-14 and will encompass all or most of the shows happening in Williamsburg and Greenpoint during that time. The summer lineup for Rocks Off Concert Cruises left a bit to be desired, but they seem to be making up for it with some great shows in September and October. On September 10, O’Death will play the ship as it cruises around Manhattan and on October 3 Dark Meat and Vivian Girls will climb on board. CMJ, the annual music conference in New York akin to SXSW in Austin, has announced its initial lineup, which includes some previously announced shows. You can usually buy tickets to individual shows, or get a badge and hope to get in.
