In the December issue of Vogue, there’s a rather flattering profile of Charlize Theron in which she thoroughly charms the writer by (among other things) taking him hiking with her dogs and making him a mix tape. It’s packed to the brim with celebrity profile clichés, not the least of which is “say something nice about an actress younger than you,” but I still think what she says about her Snow White and the Huntsman co-star Kristen Stewart is pretty sweet:

Kristen is just living this [fame] to the max and still has a sense of humor about it. There’s this really lovely quality about her that just doesn’t give a fuck. A lot of people say they don’t, but then they go home and cry and pop a Xanax. Kristen actually doesn’t give a fuck. That’s what’s so refreshing about her. I’m looking forward to killing her and taking her beauty.

I’m assuming that last part was in reference to the movie, but then again, maybe not! Anyway, it seems like this is true about K-Stew, and that’s why I’m willing to give her a “you don’t annoy me” pass most of the time despite the fact that she owes her fame and fortune to a series of objectively terrible abstinence commercials. I mean, come on. Girlfriend gets her smoke on in her pajamas like she hasn’t a care in the world:

Then again, weed is basically the teenage version of Xanax, so maybe she’s not quite as carefree as Theron thinks.

After many years of working to transition their image from “the cute twins from Full House” to “savvy fashion entrepreneurs,” Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have finally obtained the fashion world’s holy grail: a Vogue cover. This is especially impressive considering what other famous pairs are featured in this, the “siblings” issue: Dakota and Elle Fanning, Kate and Pippa Middleton, Beyonce and Solange Knowles…oh, the glamor.

This is also Vogue‘s “Best Dressed” issue, so I guess they should be doubly psyched to be on the cover of it. In fact, I’m so happy for them I’m not even going to ask why they let the stylist go the clichéed “lace over face” route for their cover shot. (Please come up with more ideas, stylists.)

A man named Robert Jeffrey posted this video of his young self lip-synching to Madonna‘s “Vogue.” The video’s from 1991, and it was taken at a booth in a New Hampshire casino that allowed patrons to get down in front of a green-screened background. Everything about this is wonderful, but we’ve got to say that the outfit really makes it.

When she was seventeen, Zooey Deschanel wrote in to Vogue to chastise them for promoting what she felt was a singular type of beauty, and a fan of the actress tracked it down. This is sort of ironic, because now Zooey is basically the poster child for a particular kind of “ideal” beauty herself — but kudos for the sentiment.

Reese Witherspoon seems like one of Hollywood’s most-together stars: she doesn’t have any drug scandals, she’s happily remarried to talent agent Jim Toth, and she’s a devoted mom to her kids Ava and Deacon Phillippe. And she’s on the cover of May’s issue of Vogue. In the accompanying interview, she talks about the burdens of fame and how much she misses her privacy:

I mean, I feel like an ingrate for even thinking anything isn’t good. I’m very, very, very lucky. But . . . umm . . . probably that I parted with my privacy a long time ago. We went different ways. And sometimes I mourn it. Sometimes I will sit in the car and cry. Because I can’t get out. That’s the only thing: I mourn the loss of my privacy.

On one level, I get that. I can’t imagine what it must be like to go online and read horrible things about yourself on the internet – and Reese has it easy compared to, say, Vanessa Hudgens. However, as Lainey Gossip points out, Reese is one of the many celebrities who wants to have it both ways. She sold the pictures from her wedding to magazines and probably made a tidy sum doing it. So many stars want to profit off of their media coverage, whether it’s selling pictures of themselves to magazines or courting bloggers to get buzz building for their new project, but they complain about the media whenever someone criticizes them. Sorry, celebrities, but you don’t get to have it both ways. Either you want the media to pay attention to you, or you don’t. I might be able to buy Reese’s argument if she said paparazzi were harassing her kids or something – since they didn’t ask to become famous – but you can’t sell pictures of your wedding and also be sad about losing your privacy. Next time, just make a private wedding album.

Last night, Paris Hilton posted this picture from her Twitter, saying “Here’s a pic of me and Terry Richardson on set of my Vogue cover shoot! Love him! :)”

Little does she know that Vogue doesn’t actually hold professional shoots in Uncle Terry’s basement, and that it’s not common policy for cover models to remove all their clothing before posing.

We think Twiter user Mixer summed it up best in the comment section: “Wow! What a delightful couple!”

Dear World: What’s Up With This Recent Rash Of Child Sexualization?

Maybe it’s been too long since a Pete Townshend or a Paul Reubens has brought significant attention to exactly how detrimental any degree of child sexualization can be, because the message seems to have gotten lost somewhere beneath a pile of Computer Engineer Barbie‘s sparkly leggings.

The photo above is from the December of French Vogue, and it’s part of an extensive a Tom Ford-shot spread of six-year-old models lounging in poses evocative of the sexy positions adult models might make in the same situations. The kindergarten-aged kids wear lipstick and stilettos and configure their mouths in pouts less “I want more ice cream” than “Nucky, won’t you pass me that champagne?” These aren’t photos of little girls playing an innocent game of dress-up in their mother’s closets, they’re the deliberate work of adults who should know better.

Today, Jezebel put up a clip from a recent episode of Toddlers and Tiaras featuring two-year-old pageant contestant named Mia. In the video, Mia strips off her clothing to reveal a Madonna-esque coned bra ensemble. The crowd laughs hysterically and Mia tries to walk off stage, but her mother jumps in and forcefully encourages her to continue — going so far as to wiggle Mia’s bottom for her. This little girl is two, and it seems pretty darn clear that she doesn’t want to be up on that stage.

So can we knock it off with this stuff already? It’s harmful to the kids and harmful to society. And hey — we have more than enough adults willing to do the sexualized stuff.
