Former Weezer Bassist Mikey Welsh Has Died
Former Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh was found dead in a Chicago hotel room on Sunday. No official cause of death has been given, but the police suspect drugs may have been involved. Mikey, 40, was in town to see Weezer play a show at RiotFest.

Miranda Cosgrove’s Bus Crash Is the Latest in Scary Celebrity Tour Bus Accidents
iCarly star/singer Miranda Cosgrove and her Dancing Crazy Tour members had a scare this morning, when their bus crashed into an overturned tractor-trailer on the road in Illinois. Fortunately, no one was killed, though Miranda broke her ankle and has to postpone the rest of her tour. But they got off easy compared to the plenty of celebrity tour buses have gotten into grislier accidents, often claiming the lives of innocent bystanders. More »

When it was announced that Weezer’s new album was going to be named Hurley, and would feature a picture of Lost‘s Jorge Garcia on the cover, people flipped out. Because if there’s one thing America can get together on, it’s shows about smoke monsters and guys who stay unreasonably overweight on a desert island for six years. Just sayin’!

Virgin Mobile Fest is Free This Year
Although not in New York, the Virgin Mobile Fest in Maryland is only a few hours away. And this year it’s free! Taking place on August 30, 2009, the festival will be at Merriweather Post Pavilion, one of my favorite venues anywhere (and also the namesake of Animal Collective’s last album).
