One of the best plays I’ve seen in New York was Sarah Ruhl‘s In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play), about a clueless Victorian doctor who cures women of their “hysteria” with a vibrator… and doesn’t even recognize their orgasms. It’s hilarious, heartrending, and a really smart meditation on female sexuality.
